Use of artificial intelligence in Movies by Rudra Tiwari

 

The cinematographic aspects of Steven Spielberg have the most aesthetic appeal to the audience. He has always opted for unique techniques to provide maximum pleasure to the viewers. His movies bear the ultimate notion of entertainment with the inclusion of extremely technical aspects and marvelous cinematographic aspects. He adheres to the not-so-conventional methods of film making, shifting the idea to another level of technological perspective and the production design elements encompasses the most advanced technological perspective of modern times. He invests his entire concentration to infuse cinematic force within his movies and this has been initiated through the perfect inclusion of cinematographic sense. He infuses the most interesting elements of cinematography and the excellent perspective of the maneuvering of the camera to bring out the most effective sense of the theme of the movies. In this paper, Steven Spielberg’s four movies will be discussed to exhibit the numerous aspects of cinematography and various perspectives of film making process by Steven Spielberg. Steven Spielberg can be considered as the master of filmmaking while involving the sense of extraordinary cinematography and advanced movie production techniques.

One of the most important movies of Steven Spielberg is Jaws, which is the adaption of the book written by Peter Benchley. Benchley adopted the idea for the story from a real incident that took place in the areas of Montauk, Long Island when a 17-foot shark was caught by a fisherman. The story revolves around the incident about a giant white shark that scares the people of a resort, called Amity in the regions of Long Island. The story involves the most fearful aspect as few people are attacked and killed by the shark and as a result, the surrounded town is becoming more inactive due to the ferocious activities of the shark, which is terrifying away all the tourists and which affects the overall business of the area. The entire region becomes terrified by the most heart-rendering activities of the blood-thirsty shark. Eventually, after a series of mishaps and unprecedented incidents, few people initiate to take action and catch the dreadful shark to end this period of terror. The film encompasses several magnificent cinematographic aspects, like the close capture of the performer’s facial expression through marvelous camera action, which initiates the storytelling perspective within the film. The expressions engulf the audience into the deepest sense of anticipation and introspection and nurture the thought process of the viewers. This technique most evident in the movie Jaws and the extraordinary mastery of the set setting technique in a vineyard and the to create a whole water body set up as the movie revolves around the fearful water creature has enhanced the true sense of the movie. Bill Butler, the cinematographer paves the way for extraordinary photographic perspective within the film which successfully infuses a various sense of fear within the audience. From recreating a beach backdrop in a vineyard to the marvelous execution of cinematographic aspects to infuse terror, fear, and a sense of mystery within the audience is evident.

Talking about the cinematography within science fiction can be observed as a different sense of perspective altogether. It’s entirely a different shift from the conventional approach towards normal scenes of some exotic location and depiction of a thematic aspect of the film. However, E.T Extra-Terrestrial, this movie doesn’t adhere to the conventional techniques of the film production, it infuses the mastery sense of shadows and light to bring out the most thrilling sense of mystery which perfectly fits with the appearance of most friendly Aliens. Allan Daviau collaborated with Steven Spielberg in this movie and with the effort of both of them, they created the most marvelous movie of that period. Steven Spielberg has the exact sense of approach and what to utilize regarding each and every scene of the movie. To enhance the sense of mystery Spielberg played with the shadows and light and added perfect tone to the scenes. Taking various angular shots, the scattered appearance of shadows and light, and the perfect sense of timing and sound has created magic on screen for this movie. these elements have helped to pull the sense of emotion for some alien creature and the little boys effectively. The ethereal glow on E.T enlightens the mood of the young viewers as they observed the entire movie with the utmost attention. So, the perfect sense of cinematography and most intriguing sense of direction has successfully created the aura of magic within the movie. (Richards 2016).

The extraordinary maneuvering of the camera and the inclusion of advanced technology can be observed in the movie Jurassic Park.  This movie has created history in the terms of inclusion of various technical aspects and advanced filmmaking processes. The universal studio has infused ample marvelous techniques to generate the sense of fear through the visual appeal of those archaic creatures.  The movie includes various cameras and the Primo Primes Spherical Lenses, Panavision Slant Focus Lenses and the cinematographer is Dean Cundey who casts his magic with Steven Spielberg to bring out the sense of extreme fear within each scene. The wonderful effects add more spice to the true sense of this movie. Steven Spielberg successfully works with various angel sense of the camera and exhibits the sense of fear naturally associated with those gigantic archaic creatures who try to disrupt the peace of humankind. The movie includes ample extraordinary techniques and technologies effectively. Spielberg involves perfectly designed camera movements and infuses an immense sense of kinetic force to provide justice to the theme of the movie. (Venkatasawmy 2012).

In this sense, another movie by Steven Spielberg deserves a good round of applause, A. I Artificial Intelligence. The perspective of modern filmmaking and the utilization of special effects are quite evident in this movie. Spielberg utilizes the VFX-intensive cinematography to bring out a completely different perspective within this movie. The characters are extremely engaging in this movie where special effects added extraordinary perspective to infuse emotion within an artificially designed robot child, who dares to become a human-like child. The entire movie involves emotional aspects of the mother-son relation and to bring out that little sense of fulfillment within the movie Spielberg involves Janusz Kamiński, the Polish cinematographer. They together involve various technical aspects and a perfect sense of technologies in this movie. The most interesting aspect of this movie is the sense of the future which the director intends to include within each scene of the movie. The extraordinary capture of the facial expression of the human-like child who desperately longs for his mother’s affection is evident within this movie. The artificially programmed child can have a true sense of emotion for his mother, this very theme requires the exact sense of cinematography to initiate the sense of fullness within the film.  This movie encompasses various technologically advanced aspects and special effects like the most aspect of complex puppetry and various computer graphics. Spielberg had the plan of making a new movie which would include technologically advance element just after the completion of Jurassic Park. (William 2005).

Steven Spielberg, though criticized several times by the contemporary film critics for the lack of acting skill within the characters of his films, however, it is evident that he is one of the best directors of this age.  Steven Spielberg can be considered as the patron of new film technologies. The most intriguing aspect is the visual aspect of the movie, where Spielberg is the master of all trades while dealing with movies. The excellent cinematographic aspect of the movies and the extraordinary presentation of each scene often wins the heart of the audience. From Jaws to A. I Artificial Intelligence the various traces of technologies that have been utilized to enhance the cinematographic sense of the movies can be observed clearly. The sole aim of discussion to exhibit the major highlights of Spielberg’s are, he tries to explore and analyze his uses of images with a steady maturation of film making skills, and interestingly unification of what had formerly been observed as his divided composition of children’s films and adult films. The eventual development in the aspects of Cinematographic elements of the movies can be traced in the discussion effectively. Steven Spielberg intends to incorporate various aspects of film cinematography to provide something new to his audience.
